About Jonathan and Ellen

Jonathan works in shopper insights for a major consumer goods company, while Ellen is a dedicated speech-language pathologist serving patients in both hospital and rehabilitation settings. They met in Florida in 2019 and, despite initially living in different states, built a strong relationship through long-distance communication. Their love story led to a beautiful wedding in Fort Myers, Florida, followed by a honeymoon in Grenada. They’ve been married since 2021 and continue to grow together as a team.

Family & Community

Both Jonathan and Ellen come from close-knit families who are enthusiastic and supportive of their adoption journey. They maintain strong relationships with their parents and siblings, regularly traveling to visit loved ones across the country. Their families are spread from Florida and Arkansas to California and Houston, and they cherish the traditions and connections that keep them close.

Faith plays a central role in their lives. They are active members of a non-denominational Christian church, where they volunteer regularly and participate in small group gatherings. Their church community is deeply involved in outreach, both locally and internationally.

Hobbies & Interests

Jonathan is a sports enthusiast who enjoys watching football, baseball, and basketball. He’s a fan of Florida teams and loves participating in fantasy football leagues. He also enjoys recreational volleyball, gaming with friends, walking their dog, and exploring new cuisines and cultures through food and documentaries.

Ellen is passionate about reading—especially historical fiction and nonfiction—and volunteers with organizations that support young women and provide equine therapy. She enjoys cooking, gardening, singing, crocheting, and spending time outdoors, especially at the beach. She’s also learning Spanish to better connect with her patients and Jonathan’s Colombian family.

Together, they foster dogs and enjoy spending time with their five-year-old pup, Callie.

Travel & Adventures

Jonathan and Ellen share a love for travel and exploration. In the last couple years they’ve journeyed across the U.S. and abroad, including trips to Europe and national parks near Las Vegas. They value the cultural experiences and personal growth that come from traveling and make it a priority to visit friends and family across the country. Annual beach trips to Florida are cherished traditions.

Parenting Philosophy

Jonathan and Ellen believe in parenting with love, empathy, and transparency. They plan to raise their child in a nurturing environment where discipline is rooted in relationship and understanding. They are committed to being open about adoption from the beginning, using books and conversations to help their child understand their story.

They are open to all forms of adoption and hope to build a respectful, supportive relationship with the birth parent(s). They welcome ongoing contact, milestone sharing, and the opportunity for the child to know their birth family.

Relationship

Jonathan and Ellen’s relationship is rooted in friendship, faith, and shared values. Their story began in Fort Myers, Florida, in the summer of 2019. Ellen had just moved south to start her career, while Jonathan was home briefly before beginning his job in Chicago. By chance, Ellen stayed with a mutual connection who happened to be close with Jonathan’s family. She met his parents before meeting him—and was already fond of them when Jonathan entered the picture.

Despite both saying they weren’t interested in long-distance relationships, they couldn’t stop talking once Jonathan returned to Chicago. Their connection grew stronger over time, and they dated long-distance for two years before getting married.

They tied the knot in 2021, at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers. Their wedding was a reflection of their personalities and teamwork. Ellen chose a dress with crystal beading that reminded her of sunlight on the ocean, and they both shared the planning responsibilities equally. They credit the experience with showing how well they function as a team. Their honeymoon in Grenada was a dream come true, and they hope to return someday.

Their marriage is built on mutual respect, shared faith, and a deep commitment to growing together. They enjoy traveling, volunteering, spending time outdoors, and fostering dogs. Their relationship continues to thrive through intentional time together, shared hobbies, and a strong support system of family and friends
