Their child will likely be a Kansas City Chiefs fan from the beginning. Thomas loves the NFL, and they are huge Chiefs fan.

The couple enjoy a variety of activities, and they stay active. As parents they will support their child in anything the child is interested in doing, including things that will be new to them. It is common for the couple to take a quick trip to see family or to have family pop in to see them. Thomas enjoys thrifting for sports apparel, playing a game of basketball with friends, a game of pool or playing cards. His adventures also include bluff jumping into the beautiful waters near where he grew up. Jennifer loves to run (daily), read and travel and enjoys all holidays. Jennifer and some cousins travel to different National Parks more than once a year.

Jennifer and Thomas regularly attend a local Baptist church. They met during college at a friend's BBQ. Their wedding was held on a holiday weekend so hundreds of friends and family members could travel in to enjoy a weekend-long celebration. 

Education is key in their lives. Both have master's degrees and they both work at a large university. 

Thomas and Jennifer were married over 16 years ago and have known each other for two decades. Both are blessed with parents who have had long marriages and have them provided them with examples of working through life's challenges. For over three years this aunt and uncle took on the parenting role for three children as they helped the family reunify. The couple have experienced fertility challenges and taken each step with time for healing and education. Thomas is eager to learn the best ways to help an adopted child learn about their adoption story and their biological family. 

Thomas and Jennifer are both close to their parents. Thomas's family worked together to build their own home, a room at a time, and they grew some of their own foods. The work ethic was instilled by his parents has taught him to work hard at everything he does and loves. He says his mother could accomplish anything and he contacts his dad for advice on any project. His parents still live in the home that they built. Jennifer's mother completed an education and then focused on raising children; her father is a physician and committed his practice to family medicine.

Jennifer and Thomas respect the wishes of an expectant parents' decision how involved the adoptive parents will be before placement. The couple are eager to be part of the pregnancy and birth but honor how the birth parent wants it to look. They will enjoy sharing photos and updates with the birth parents. 

The family will use their leave and earned time off to keep the child in the home as long as possible. Also, Thomas has two months off each summer. The baby has a nursery and a designated playroom, and the couple has room for more than one child. They are also open to twins as well.

Regarding a birth mother Jennifer says, "every person and family have their own story and, if you choose us, ours will be shaped by you."
